Serkan Ateş

Serkan Ateş leads the Quantum Photonics Systems Laboratory (QPSL) in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Sabancı University. His research focus is on solid-state quantum optics and nanophotonics, specifically investigating single-photon emitters in 2D materials such as defects in hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN).

Dr. Ateş received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Stuttgart and held postdoctoral research positions at the Technical University of Denmark and NIST, USA. He previously served as an Associate Professor at the Izmir Institute of Technology (2015–2025). He is a recipient of the TÜBA-GEBİP (2017) and the BAGEP (2019) Young Scientist Awards.
